LOWER DIVISION STUDENT ADVISOR

Hospitality & Tourism Management Program at SDSU

I was given the opportunities in the Spring of 2014 to become a Lower Division Student Advisor for the Hospitality and Tourism Management Program at San Diego State University. In this position I advise students in “Lower Division” status which is usually freshman and sophomore level students. I would advise them about the opportunities available within the programs, from the student associations, leadership positions, scholarships, study abroad options, and help them create their class schedule for the next semester. I would also help with the New Student Orientations. In 2016, I have attended 19 of those orientations. I truly enjoy and have a deep passion for sharing my knowledge and watching others grow. I would love for students to be provided all the information one can give them rather than nothing at all. The best part is meeting new students, students that haven’t gotten accepted to SDSU just yet, and talking to students I have met in the past.

Through my dedication and deep passion I was granted as a Nominee for the Provost Outstanding Academic Peer Advisors with only 10 other students out of the whole campus. It is just a great honor to be recognized for my dedication to this program and helping the students is something I don’t consider as a job but rather something I love doing. When I graduate this part of my life will end, but I am excited to watch the students I have mentored grow in their careers and graduate, and see what other training opportunity is next to help fill this void. I am so happy I took this leadership opportunity and be a part in so many college students’ lives and college career within the HTM program.
