KALEIDOSCOPE COURSE

Revealing My PRINT SCORE

Growing up one would think they would know themselves very well down to a tee. However, there might be that one thing or person that comes in your life and tells you different. It is something for you to embrace and learn from and grow on rather than take it as a negative. That is what exactly happened in one of my courses within the Hospitality and Tourism Management Program during my second semester there. I was enrolled in the Kaleidoscopes course, which is the first of four leadership classes I would be taking during my time there. One of the assignments was obtaining a PRINT Score. Each student goes online and fills out a questionnaire to determine what type of person you are. When I got the results, I was pleasantly surprised. I was a 3/2. Below is the full description of results. Some highlights of a 3/2 are a productive, success-driven people-person with a talent for adaptability and compromise. They have fine-tuned interpersonal skills that can serve many purposes, they are filled with optimism and self-confidence and are hard workers and perseverance. Some of these qualities hit the nail on the head with my assumptions and some of the characteristics I did not even notice or realize. We continued throughout the class learning how to interact with others of different personalities and ones that are a like. It was very informative and really taught me that you have to take a different approach to praise and criticism to everyone because the personality types are completely different. This could be seen in the simulations where we were placed in groups with alike and different personalities and have industry professionals come in and evaluate us. We would have to work as a group and in one week put on an event or presentation. At the end we would receive the feedback from the industry professionals who have been evaluating us each week. The comments I received were very informative. One comment was to make sure to let others talk, so in the next simulation I focused more on asking questions to the other members to encouraged participation. It really helps to understand where I stand and help develop and grow myself to be a better leader.

In the next leadership course we then took our print scores and obtained our trigger report. In this report it show was triggers you. Meaning what sets you off or bothers you. Some of my triggers included, low energy or slow moving people, feeling excluded, having your time wasted, when you are criticized or made to look bad in front of others, and many more. This was very surprising because I knew what bothered me but when it is laid out on a piece of paper it is very eye opening. At that moment it encouraged me to really work on those aspects of my personality to become a better person.

These assignments have helped me tremendously to understand myself better than I have ever known before. I really liked this project and many other students say the same.
