Belching Beaver Experience

About 3 weeks ago, I had dinner at Belching Beaver in the Vista Location with a friend. The overall experience I witnessed and received was such a positive and uplifting experience it was memorable. I conducted research, wanting to learn more about this company and this famous Peanut Butter Milk Stout Beer that is buzzing all around San Diego. The interesting thing I found out about Belching Beaver is when they first started they contracted the hops before the location and told their head brewer not to worry about the cost of the ingredients because the quality of the beer is the number one thing. Their famous beers range from IPA’s to sours with creative and unique flavors. They are currently open from 5-9pm and just recently opened this Vista located known as the Beav Tavern. There other locations is Oceanside, Ocean Beach and North Park. They are very active within the community with many community events to trivia nights within each location. Belching Beaver takes part in many beer festivals throughout the county. I was just at the San Diego Brewer’s Guild last weekend, and Belching Beaver was a participant.

The employees and specifically my waiter at the location were so helpful and kind from the very beginning when I put our name down to waiting outside at the bar then being seating and even checkout. Start to finish it was great and outstanding. My specific waiter helped us from the choices of food to the type of beer we drank. He even provided us with samples of beers to help with the decision and told us his favorites on the menu. This is the main reason why I chose this company as part of my case study. The physical environment of the restaurant was very comforting from the fire pits and patio chairs in the back to the fire centerpiece next to the bar. These elements are shown in the photos below. In the back, there were about 3 different families and dogs everywhere making it a fun and relaxing environment and sports bar feeling with the televisions. I truly enjoyed my experience.

After reading “Welcome to the experience economy”, they mention about some economic distinctions, which one is the experiences column, and it has terms like, experience, stage, memorable, personal, and revealed over duration, stager, guest, and sensations. These are distinguishing what economic distinctions include. Under the topic staging experiences that sell, they use the example of the taxi, which strived to be the best taxi driver so he started to give tours and handout sandwiches as part of the experience. He was making his service valuable to the consumer and worth the price tag. This is the same concept seen at Belching Beaver. Consumers today could go to the store and purchase their products or have it home delivered. However the consumer decides to drive to their tasting room to have an experience like the one I encountered. Even though the food prices are not on the cheap but a little above average price range. They pay for the environment and the quality of the products (Beer and Food) to the seating, fire pits, or even the sports televisions. The concept of allowing dogs and children to come to an environment attracted a wider market and allows the venue to be more valuable and a destination they have to go to. They are in the experience business not the profit business. This is one of the main reasons why I choose this company to conduct my research on.
